The first "pearl blossom" originated from residual material. I had a long four-point star after sawing a plate for another piece and combined it with an artificial pearl from an old brooch. My inspiration came from the beautiful flower buds that seem to have the drawing of a star before their petals open.

One of my favorite paintings is, as undoubtedly for many others, Vermeer’s The Girl with the Pearl Earring. Based on the reflection on the earring, experts say that the earring is actually silver and not a pearl... That seemed like a nice alternative for a pearl!
